footwear

my idol of about 20 yrs is getting married :(

i know this sounds totally stupid... but... i feel a tinge of jealousy when looking at the news report on yahoo news saying that Andy Lau is getting married.... gah.... he has been single for so many years le... and now he's finally getting married. ya, he's old.. older than my dad... but.. he's my 1st idol since i knew what is "idol"..... i've liked him since i was 4 yrs old... :( and when he remained single for so many years, i tot he might be... *ahem*.. which is not that bad, coz then he won't get married, at least.... hahaha..

anyway, i'm not afraid of my Andy (not Andy Lau... Andy Yu) getting jealous/annoyed/upset at my post.. coz Andy Lau is his idol too.. heehee.. and he also thinks (though he isn't loud about it) that he shares some similarities with his facial features... heehee..

k, i dunno what else to say le... i shall stop here.. :X

moving to the next stage in life?

well, i'm done with all my modules and exams in NTU, and i'm left with only FYP till next yr march :D happy!! hee~ i really hate going to school.. and it's not bcoz i don't like lectures n tutorials n assignments... it's just that i hate it that NTU is soooo freaking far away from where i live - it's 4 hrs of travelling everyday :(

anyway... i finished my FINAL paper last wednesday, and the feeling was so weird.. i'm supposed to feel euphoric and relieved. but reality hadn't kicked in.. haha... i spent the next few days doing things i like.. went to Sitex with my mum on thurs - wanted to just see see look look initially, but ended up buying a $280 toy :p bought the Guitar Hero World Tour for my Wii - comes with a drum set, a guitar and a mic... and it's lotsa fun!! spent my friday playing on the drum set.. then went Sitex again on saturday, but this time with my dearie & his parents - they went to buy a printer, then went to car showrooms with them to kaypoh.. haha.. and spent sunday watching rozen maiden and chobits and playing on my guitar hero with my cousins.. i have all the entertainment i need at home.. scared that i'll turn into an otaku le.. haha.. but i dun think i will, coz i still have fyp meetings...

i'm now enthusiastically looking for jobs, coz i wanna start earning $ le.. have been living off my family for long enough le... but my dearie is still in school lor :( dunno when he'll graduate lar :( i really want us to start working and saving $. i'm really afraid that our "promise" won't be fulfilled... haiz.. the kind of stuff i think of when i'm idling....

nvm, fyp will make me busy again, and hopefully divert my attention from this. but then... if we want it to happen next year, shouldn't we start planning already? so luan :(

on cam-whoring

now with digital cameras, hp with integrated camera, laptops with integrated webcam, it's becoming increasingly easy for ppl to take picture of themselves. and this is what i believe aided the rise in cam-whoring. i think it's nice that ppl love themselves and wanna keep many nice pictures of themselves, probably so that they can reminiscent about how good they used to look when they get old and wrinkly decades later.

BUT.. there is 1 thing that irks me. I think girls who camwhore with cute or innocent or sexy or sultry expressions is perfectly fine. But guys who do the same.... are NOT! it's just damn disgusting and gross can? i mean, if u wanna take that kind of pix, keep it to yourself, and don't broadcast it to the whole world... unless your cam-whoring skill is so good that it doesn't look like it's taken by yourself at all. but still, guys acting cute... unless u're super damn good looking... if not it just looks gross lar! and i really feel that guys who camwhore while on public transports is just damn lame... it's 100 times worse than cam-whoring in your own bathroom. eww....

ok, it's juz my opinions lar.. if u're a guy who chanced upon my blog n happen to cam-whore, sorry if i offended u ok? i'm not referring to anyone in particular, so nobody can sue me for libel. and it's "fair comment" i think... as learned in media law class, if the defendant was referring to a group so large that no individual could be pinpointed, then the plaintiff would not succeed in the lawsuit. and i believe there is a big enough group of male cam-whorers in the world, so it doesn't make sense for 1 particular guy to come up and sue me for libel. and by the way, "disgusting" and "gross" are subjective, and there is no fixed standards for them. hahaha... not like i'm saying stuff like "b*st*rds" or "*******". and there is no identification features in my post. lalala~

ok, i'm just feeling snappy today... provoke me and risk getting your head bitten off. snarls*

why aren't ppl working from home?

I can think of several advantages to this:

1) Save the earth: lesser ppl driving on the road (because they're all staying at home) = lesser carbon monoxide produced = slows down global warming

2) Save money: Companies/organisations don't have to pay for rental for office space, employees don't have to spend money on office wear (or at least don't have to buy shoes, accessories, and even skirts/pants???), everyone can save on (rising) transportation fees. Ppl don't even need to own cars. If they need to travel (for some reasons... e.g. to meet client to sign a contract physically) they can just take public transport (which will be less crowded if everyone works from home)

3) Save time: lets say U take 1 hour to commute to your workplace everyday, and 1 hour back home. If u work from home, u'll be saving 2 hours everyday. This additional 2 hours can be used for a lot of things... u could play with your kids, do OT using that time if needed, cook for your family, exercise (a lot of working adults r complaining they don't have time to keep fit), indulge in your hobbies, sleep (e.g. wake up later or sleep earlier) coz many ppl don't have the luxury of sleeping for 8 hours a day... and a lot of other reasons that i can't think of now... Some ppl buy a condo/bungalow that's worth millions of dollars, and they spend most of the time outside. Waste of money huh?

4) Work-life balance: Everyone would be able to spend more time with their family - husband/wife, parents, kids, pets.... U can have lunch with your family coz u'll be at home physically. Husband and wife can sit beside each other even if they work for different companies. Ppl with old and frail parents/grandparents can be more at ease by knowing that they're safe and sound at home.

See, with cable internet connection, webcam, and chat applications like msn (ok, i heard it's called windows live messenger now) and skype, instantaneous communication is possible. And most ppl in the office likes to email each other even if they're just 2 cubicles away anyway. Everything just gets emailed/cc-ed/bcc-ed/forwarded blablabla... sometimes the only time u get face-to-face interaction is during lunch. Oh ya, and this reminds me of 1 more advantage.

5) Less/Almost zero office politics: coz u don't have the extra time to exchange gossips with your colleagues. i think this CMC (computer-mediated-communication) chapter from last sem's interpersonal comm module got mention something like CMC is more efficient for work/project issues bcoz it's more task oriented or something like that.

I know why ppl still have to report for work. Coz the boss is afraid the employees "eat snake". And some ppl believe that physical interaction is important. Though I beg to differ. Refer to my points stated above for explanation. Haha.. And 1 more issue might be that public transport companies and car dealers might not be very happy. Coz this might mean less ppl travelling on buses/mrts/taxis (hello, now oil price so high, very expensive leh!!), and less ppl considering about buying a car coz they might not actually need one.

I don't know if this is just pointless rambling, but I really wonder why this isn't done. Well, at least for those ppl who do "office work", like administrative duties, accountings/finance, corp comm etc. Not feasible for manufacturing kind of industry la... haha...

ps. I suddenly thought of this issue bcoz my sis happens to have a "work-from-home" day today :)

saw this joke on a forum...

A Singapore English radio station, was holding a live radio segment at a shopping mall. The DJ was hosting a game show where prizes were given away to kids on stage if they could name the opposite gender of animals. The first kid to come on stage was a girl.

"What's your name girl & how old are you?"
"My name is Cheryl & I am 8 years old."
"OK, tell me Cheryl, what is the opposite of cow?" "Bull."
"Very good! That's correct. Now here's a barbie doll for you.
Ladies & gentlemen, please give her a round of applause."

The game then continued for the next 15 minutes in a similar fashion with the kids getting all the simple questions correct until it was time for the 10th kid to come on stage. The audience were very impressed with this kid as he was very clever & articulate from the moment he stepped on stage, before being asked, announced, "My name is Johnny. I am 7 years old and I like English, Maths & Art. My hobbies are collecting stamps & stickers."

The audience liked him immediately because of his confidence & had started to clap for him. His parents, standing right in front of the stage, were beaming with pride at how smart their son was.

"OK, Johnny, you should know the answer to this question very well. Close 2 eyes also can answer. Tell me, what is the opposite of cock?"

The young boy paused for a moment, scratched his head, moved closer to the microphone & finally answered proudly, "Chee Bai!"

Damn funny right? hahaha.... like, diao -_-"
